George R. Lockwood
1950 - 2010
LOCKWOOD, George R. of Saginaw. Our loving husband, father, papa, son and brother died Friday, October 22, 2010 at his home in Saginaw after a courageous battle with cancer. His dear wife, Carol Hubinger Lockwood, family and friends, surrounded George. He was born in Flint, Michigan on December 2, 1950 to Carlton J. Lockwood and Helen Barrie Lockwood. George and Carol were married on September 18, 1971 and recently celebrated their 39th year of marriage. This union was blessed with four children, Kelly (Jay) Cowieson, Matthew Lockwood, Jeffrey Lockwood, and Jessica (Ben) Roth. He cherished four beautiful grandchildren, Lauren and Brody Cowieson and Anthony and Julianna Roth. George is also survived by four siblings, Sharon (Gerald) Jehnsen, Barrie (Becki) Lockwood, Kim (Clint) Lockwood, Sara (Chris) Oravitz; his mother-in-law, Viola Hubinger; brothers-in-law, Randy (Amy) Hubinger and James (Melinda) Hubinger; aunt, Ann (Ray) Gudom and many dear nieces and nephews. His father-in-law, Donald Hubinger, preceded him in death.
George graduated from the former Douglas MacArthur High School class of 1969. He was employed by Delco Moraine/Delphi Chassis and retired after 35 years of dedicated service. He then founded George’s Lawn and Landscaping and continued his work until his worsening illness. George was an avid Red Wings fan and enjoyed playing hockey himself, in the position of goalie for greater than 30 years. George had a wonderful sense of humor and quick wit, which will be missed by all.
A funeral service for George will take place at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams St. Rev. Paul R. Hinz will officiate with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd. (off State) on Monday, October 25, 2010 from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. George will lie in state at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
