Margo McDowell (Cowan)

Obituary for Margo McDowell Cowan

Margo “Mac” McDowell Cowan, a loving wife, mom and grandmother, passed away on October 7, 2021 at the age of 69 after a brief battle with liver cancer.

Margo is survived by her husband, Jim; her son and daughter, Shaun and Stephanie. Her daughter in law Lisa and her beloved grandchildren: Maya, Mackenzie, Ella and Shaun. Margo is predeceased by her sister, Patricia McDowell, and mother, Betty Jean McDowell.
Margo was the Coordinator for the Fort Bend Master Gardener Program for the past 22 years, and she was also a member of the Coastal Prairie Texas Master Naturalists; it was a job that she loved going to everyday and considered everyone in the program a part of her family. Margo had a green thumb and was a “plant whisperer”. She could grow anything, bring any plant back to life and loved anything that had to do with gardening. Margo’s love for horticulture was evident to all who knew her and wanted people to share in her love of gardening and nature.

Margo’s other love in life was her family. Her husband, Jim, who came into her life unexpectedly one night at a party, and swept her off her feet, was the love of her life. They were married for over 30 years. Margo’s’ twins: “Steffer” and “Sport”, who she raised on her own until they were 6, were the light of her lives and she talked about them to whoever would listen. When the grandchildren came, Margo’s weekends were spent with them, whether it was Mackenzie on the volleyball court, Bubba on the football field, Ella on the softball fields, or Maya with her FFA project or her recent high graduation, Granny was always there. She was so proud to be their grandmother and be a part of their lives.

Margo had an infectious laugh and was notorious for laughing at her own jokes. Her laughter, her smile, and the way she made everyone feel like family, will be deeply missed by friends, family and all who knew her.

Details on Celebration Of Life will be forthcoming.
