Ray Whitney

Whitney, Joseph R. Jr. (Ray)
1951 - 1972

Joseph R. Whitney Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph R. Whitney Sr. lost his life in an auto accident in Mount Pleasant about 3 a.m. Saturday, June 17, 1972.  Age 21 years.  He was born January 3, 1951 in Pontiac and came to Saginaw with his parents in 1960.  He graduated from Douglas MacArthur High School in 1969 and would have been in the senior class of Central Michigan University as a preministerial student.  He was in the C.M.U. marching band and was in charge of the college student coffee house program.  He was a member of Countryside Church.  Surviving besides his parents are one sister, Mary Helen Whitney, Detroit, his grandmother, Mrs. Harry Gray, Lake City, Mich., several aunts and uncles, and cousins.  He was engaged to Tammy Wilson, Sturgis, Mich., and they had planned their wedding for Aug. 19 of this year.  Funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Monday at the Countryside Church.  Rev. Richard S. Blair and Rev. Malcolm G. Brown will officiate with burial in Richland Township Cemetery, Hemlock.  Friends may call at the Case Chapel, 409 Adams St. after 2 p.m. Sunday, until 10 a.m. Monday and at the church from 12 noon Monday until time of service.  Those who so desire may make memorials to the Countryside Church Memorial Fund or the Eagles Boys Village.
